    Backstroke Drills:

    • Spin Drill. Pick up your head and spin your arms as fast as possible without worrying too much about arm form. It's exhausting so do it for short bursts. You can do it flag-to-flag. Updating your backstroke: If you're a USMS member, go to Swimmer magazine for May/June 2024 for an article from USMS about the evolution of backstroke from 1900 to today. If you're not a USMS member, here's a bit of the article talking about changes in pull patterns. They allude to but don't get explicit about the increased emphasis in increasing your turnover rate. That's probably the #1 way to improve your backstroke speed.
