GUSPiranhas Update 6/15 (first meet! stroke clinic! practice changes!)
June 15th
Hi everyone,
We are *NOT* on a standard practice schedule this week!
- What will be normal: Monday 6 am, Tuesday 6 am, Wednesday 6 am, Wednesday 7 am, Thursday 7 pm & Sunday 9 am. See more details on the pool setup schedule.
- What will *not* be normal:
- Monday 7pm-9pm --> freestyle stroke clinic in place of standard practices. Rsvp on our website - there are still 14 spots available. The clinic will be $5 going to the MJHS swim team for their help with clinic. Pay at the clinic - I'll be able to take cash or Venmo or tap.
- Tuesday midnight --> signup deadline for our first swim meet! Rsvp on our website or on the app. I did an updated video on signups you can see here.
- Friday --> first meet of 2025! Chris Chow ([email protected]) sends out details on the meets, but the basics: we'll be at Briarmoor Manor. Warmups 5:30, meet begins at 6:30, and it's roughly a 60-70 minute drive to get there from Glenwood Park during rush hour.
- Friday 6 am practice is canceled. We don't practice on meet days.
- What to bring: Swim gear, snacks & CHAIRS! We also typically do go out after the meet. Some go home to change, or change at the pool.
- EHL's: If this is your first ever swim meet, it can help to write out your EHL's with a sharpie before the meet. You can do that at home or at the pool before warmups. I'll have some sharpies with me. Visit the Meet Signup page on Friday to view heat sheets and I'll also the athlete entry view, or you can see it on the Swimtopia app. If you don't know what EHL means, there's optional additional info here.
- What's a meet warmup? For those of you new to swim meets or returning after many years, here's a good default meet warmup:
- Stretch on deck.
- Swim 200 yards.
- Do another 150 yards of kicking or drills or GOLF.
- Do another 150 yards really focusing on your turns. (Do extra backstroke turns.)
- Go to the designated dive lanes and do Dive 25's. You'll dive off the blocks or the side, then swim down to the far end, get out and walk around. Safety guidelines:
- Never swim into an active block (where people are practicing starts)
- Warmups are feet-first entry only except in designated dive lanes.
So excited for the first meet of summer!!!
